PERSONAL SUPPORT. PROTECTED DIGNITY.

Respectful assistance with the routines that make each day possible.

Personal care is intimate. Accepting help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, or mobility can feel difficult for an older adult who has spent a lifetime taking care of themselves and of other people.

Forever Young approaches these moments with patience, privacy, clear communication, and respect.

We assist with what is needed while encouraging the client to make choices and to participate as fully as they comfortably can.

PERSONAL CARE

What is personal care assistance?

Personal care assistance supports activities of daily living, commonly called ADLs. These are the essential self-care activities people complete each day, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and moving safely from one position or place to another.

The level of assistance can range from verbal cueing and standby support through to more hands-on help, depending on the care plan, the preferences and abilities of the client, and our approved scope.

WHAT IT COVERS

Personal care may include

Exact services always reflect applicable law, company policy, caregiver training, and the individual care plan.

DIGNITY IS PART OF THE SERVICE

How help is given matters as much as the task.

Caregivers explain what they are about to do, ask permission before hands-on assistance, offer choices wherever possible, protect privacy and modesty, follow preferred routines and products, and move at a comfortable pace.

Where a family has been providing this help themselves, handing it over can feel like a loss. Many find the opposite. Being a daughter again, rather than the person managing the bathroom, gives the relationship its shape back.

SUPPORTING INDEPENDENCE

The purpose is not to make someone passive.

01

Set up, then step back

Supplies laid out, clothing within reach, and enough time allowed. Often that is the whole of the help required.

02

Assist only with the gap

If someone can wash their own face or choose their own clothes, they do. Help covers the part they cannot comfortably manage.

03

Keep the familiar rhythm

Preferred bathing days, time of day, products, and order of the routine are recorded, because an unfamiliar routine is harder than an unfamiliar face.

CLEAR ABOUT OUR SCOPE

What personal care does not include

Forever Young provides non-medical assistance. Personal care does not include skilled nursing, wound care, injections, sterile procedures, medication administration, clinical assessment, physical therapy, or occupational therapy.

If needs become unsafe for non-medical assistance alone, we will say so and help the family understand that an appropriately licensed professional may be needed.

QUESTIONS FAMILIES ASK

About personal care.

01Will a caregiver force my parent to bathe or change clothes?

No. Personal care is provided with consent, patience, and respect. A caregiver can encourage, offer choices, simplify the routine, and raise concerns with the family. Force and humiliation are never acceptable.

02Can we request a caregiver of a particular gender?

Tell us during the consultation. It is a reasonable request and a common one. We will make reasonable efforts within availability and applicable employment law, and we will be straight with you about whether we can meet it rather than promising and hoping.

03Can a caregiver lift or transfer someone?

Transfer assistance depends on the person's needs, the approved care plan, equipment, caregiver training, and applicable law. We assess whether the assistance you need can be delivered safely within non-medical scope, and we will tell you if it cannot.

04Can the caregiver apply creams or handle medical devices?

Only ordinary personal-care assistance permitted by law and our policy. Prescription treatments, wound care, clinical devices, and anything requiring medical judgment must be handled by appropriately licensed professionals.

START WITH WHAT IS CHANGING

Personal care should feel supportive, not controlling.
